We were blown away by her latest film Black Box Diaries. Unfolding like a thriller with the use of secret investigative recordings, vérité shooting and emotional first-person videos, Shiori takes us on a personal journey, investigating her own assault in an attempt to prosecute her high-profile offender. In a country where speaking of rape remains taboo (only 4% of victims report their cases to police) Shiori’s determination for her truth to be known is profoundly moving. As we watch her push forward with her case despite the death threats, cyberbullying, hate mail and resistance from her own family, it ultimately becomes a matter of life or death.
This isn’t just a story about seeking criminal justice. It's the story of one woman's experience - her black box, laid open for all to see.
