‘A sign of change, and I hope, inspiration.' - Laura Mulvey
Introducing filmmaker, author, theorist and academic, Laura Mulvey, who transformed the ways in which we watch, think about and make films. Five decades after her seminal essay “Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema,” her influence continues to ripple through generations of filmmakers, writers and viewers - from Joanna Hogg and Céline Sciamma to the most unexpected corners of pop culture.
In the early days of the Women’s Liberation Movement, signatures were surrendered in the name of collectivity. Now, wearing her name becomes a new collective gesture - a way of signalling the legacy of feminist thought and carrying it forward into the future.
Modelled by Tricia Tuttle, Anna Smith, Liz Karlsen, Arike Oke, Christophe Dupin & Emma Smart at BFI. Photographed by Laura Stratford.
