We’re thrilled to have been invited by Bohemia Media in partnership with Birds Eye View's Reclaim The Frame, to bring Girls on Tops audiences access to watch Chinonye Chukwu’s deeply affecting Clemency.
Winner of the 2020 Sundance Grand Jury Prize, the film explores the effects that years of carrying out death row executions have had on prison Warden Bernadine Williams (played by a quietly astounding Alfre Woodard). As she prepares to execute another inmate, Bernadine must confront the psychological and emotional demons her job creates, ultimately connecting her to the man she is sanctioned to kill.
Tune in tonight for an online Q&A with writer-director Chinonye Chukwu and cast; Alfre Woodard, Aldis Hodge and Wendell Pierce from 8.00pm on the Birds’ Eye View Facebook Channel. The Q&A will be co-hosted by Birds’ Eye View director-at-large Mia Bays and commissioning editor at The Independent’s comments desk Kuba Shand-Baptiste. The event will have live captioning and a BSL interpreter.
Clemency is available to view online from 17th July -23rd August, with a percentage of each ticket price going directly to participating organisations and independent cinemas. Support Girls on Tops by watching through our own virtual screening room below.
Cert: 15 (contains disturbing scenes, brief bloody images).
